In addition to the long-haul freight services that Heartland provides to its customers from the corporate offices in Iowa City, IA, we also operate eight Regional Operation Centers for customers in and around Atlanta, GA; Carlisle, PA; Columbus, OH; Kingsport, TN; Olive Branch, MS; Phoenix, AZ; Jacksonville, FL; and Chester, VA. These short-haul operations concentrate on freight movements generally within a 500-mile radius of the regional terminal, and are designed to meet the standards of both the customer and Heartland Express drivers.

Minimum requirements for hire

  3. Endorsements: HAZMAT (not required but preferred)

Profile information:

  3. Expected mileage – 2200 – 3000 depending of the division – 4500 – 5500 for teams

Pay scales

HAZMAT – Heartland announced that they will be paying an additional penny per mile for those drivers who hold the HAZMAT endorsement.They are not requiring drivers to have it but encourage their drivers to get it to have a chance to earn additional pay of up to $6,500 over the 5 year timeframe the endorsement usually lasts.

GREEN MILE$ program

All miles driven in the green zone - east and north of I-81 from Maryland north - will be paid an additional 4 to 7 cents.  Top pay in this area will be $.54 per mile for company drivers and $.95 PLUS fuel stabilization for owner operators.

Driving position descriptions

“System” (OTR) positionsthis position is dispatched out of Iowa City, IA.  These drivers will earn an industry leading pay rate of up to $.50 per mile (as of 9/30/05).  These drivers enjoy solid weekly miles and home time every 10 – 14 days.

Regional positionsOur regional drivers get to have the “best of both worlds”!  They get to enjoy some of the best home time in the industry and do not have to sacrifice pay.  Our pay scale is higher than most company’s long haul pay rates.  Regional drivers will make as much as $.45 per mile!

Team positions Our teams will run all 48 states and enjoy any one of three options for home time and miles.  The average weekly mile increase the longer a team is willing to be out.

  1. Teams can be out for 2 weeks and be home for 2 days.
  2. Teams can be out for 3 weeks and be home for 3 days.
  3. Teams can choose to be out for 4 weeks at a time and get home for a week.

Salaried positionsHeartland offers some GUARANTEED salary positions in some areas of New England, in the Atlanta, GA area, and in the Columbus, OH area.  These drivers will earn a GUARANTEED salary each week.  In some areas of New England the GUARANTEED salary is $1,000 or more (if mileage pay is more the driver will earn the mileage pay for that week).  The other areas will earn a GUARANTEED $825 or more per week.  Home time for these positions is weekly.

Refresher positionHeartland offers a refresher training position for drivers who have been off the road for a while.  If a driver has past OTR driving experience and they have been off the road recently we can offer them a chance to earn the full pay scale based on ALL of their past OTR experience.
